What are Soy Wax Melts? TOP
That question is answered on our About Us Page here.
How do I melt my Soy Wax Melts? TOP
There are a lot of different styles of melters (or warmers, or burners depending on the store that carries them and what they call them) that you can use to warm your melts. One of the easiest ways is to purchase a candle plate from Wal Mart or Hobby Lobby (for around $4) and use a CERAMIC dish to place the melt into. Just set it on the plate and turn it on and it will melt to the perfect temperature. Avoid using glass, such as any type of empty jar on a candle plate for melts. They could shatter.
If you want to purchase a warmer/melter/burner there are several on the market. Some of them use a tea light candle to warm the melt, others use a very small amount of electricity. There are ceramic melters, punched tin melters and those that plug right into a wall socket. You can find these by doing a Google search for them. Soon Simply Melt Away will have them as part of our product line! In the meantime we recommend using the candle plate/ceramic dish method. We use the plate with a small ceramic ice cream sundae dish. This works wonderfully for us! How long will the fragrance last in my melts? TOP
The length of time the scent will last in your melts depends on a lot of factors. The quality of the wax, the quality of the fragrance, (actually the fragrance itself is a factor since no two scents are alike) and how warm your melter is. With tart melts from Simply Melt Away you should get SEVERAL hours of fragrance from just ONE melt.
Some companies will tell you that you will get X number of hours, but that can be misleading. Just be assured that all melts you get from SMA will last for several hours if not days. For example, we recently had a Vanilla Frosting Melt in our warmer that we reheated for over for a couple of weeks before it lost it's scent. All in all it was heated and had a good strong scent throw for around 25-30 hours or more while it was warm. Of course, even after shutting the melter off, we could still smell it, even after it solidified again, so you COULD say we enjoyed it for that entire 2 weeks since we could smell it even when it was solid. You should expect approximately that amount of time with all of our tart melts. But again, depending on the scent, your melter, or other factors the time could vary.
At one time we placed a Cucumber Melon scented melt in the melter. We reheated it over and over for more than a month and still enjoyed it. But Cucumber Melon tends to be a stronger scent right out of the bottle. Eventually we had to replace it. But it lasted for a long, long time.
Again, there are a lot of factors that go into it, and it can be a difficult thing to judge. But we can assure you that with our melts, you will get the maximum amount of scent for the longest time possible.
Many times if you have started to notice the scent is dimming, you can turn the melter off, leave it off for a few days letting the wax "re-cure". You will get more "miles" out of it if you do that sometimes. Not only that, but if you have become accustom to the scent, you will not smell it as readily. So turning it off, and returning to it later will help you to get a better scent. Why aren't my melts pure white? They have creamy yellow appearance. TOP
First of all, soy wax is not snow white. It is more of a creamy white. And when you add fragrance oil to it the color can change even more depending on the hue of the oil itself. For example, the fragrance "Blueberry Muffin" has a very orange/yellow cast to it and will make your tart melts more of a creamy color than a white color. We have added NO dyes whatsoever to our melts.
Also, some fragrance oils contain real vanilla essential oils in them. If they do, after a short time, the vanilla tends to cause even more of a "yellowish" cast to your melts. In some cases it may cause some "spotting" of a yellowish color. This is perfectly normal and will not affect your melts AT ALL.
Do your fragrance oils contain phthalates? TOP
Absolutely not. We do not purchase oils that contain this chemical. This is a question you should be asking ANYONE from which you buy candles, melts, or more importantly, cosmetics!
For more information on phthalates and why they can be dangerous, please read this great article at the Central Florida Green Guide.
And please be aware that we buy from a reputable supplier that has been in business for SEVEARL YEARS and will never use fragrance oils that contain ANY dangerous chemicals of any kind. You can be assured that all of the fragrance oils used at Simply Melt Away are extremely safe. If your melts are dye-free why do they have a little color; pinkish, yellowish, brownish? TOP The reason for any color or color change you might see in your melts is due to the fragrance oil itself. Especially any fragrance that contains ANY vanilla scent whatsoever. Even if you don't know the vanilla is there, it may still contain a bit of it and it can discolor your wax after a time. The longer the cure, the more of the color you will see. This is perfectly normal and perfectly harmless. So if you get a pack of melts that has a slight tint to it, it is from the fragrance oil. And again, it will get a bit darker the longer you have them. You may also notice slight "speckles" from time to time. Again, this is a characteristic of the fragrance oil and is perfectly harmless. |
